Artist of the Week: Ivy Levan

Cherrytree Records houses incredible talent such as the likes of Robyn, Disclosure, Ellie Goulding, Jessie Ware and Natalia Kills. So naturally, it comes as no surprise that Ivy Levan is nothing short of amazing, being in such great company.
Described commonly as "swamp hop" (I don't know either), the former models work resembles a blend of Christina Aguilera and her 'Back to Basics' era, and a sprinkling of Amy Winehouse. The debut of her first release, 'Introducing the Dame', a four track EP, we see the 26 see year old showcase what is nothing short of a positive step in the right direction. Lead single, the amazing "Hot Damn", sees the brassy songstress singing, and I mean SINGING, "Hot damn this fools tryna stick me for my paper. Hot damn, these fools won't let alone", over a beat drenched in 50s sensibility. Second cut, the almost but not quite as amazing "Money", follows in the same vein as the loud, glitzy cut sees the vintage songstress demanding you to show her the money. The video, part of a trilogy of music videos, shows Levans vintage style and ridiculous good looks, whilst bringing to the forefront the songstresses creativity.

I suggest everyone jumps on the Ivy Levan bandwagon. I for one certainly am. Listen to the entire EP at: http://www.soundcloud.com/ivylevan
